There Is Nothing To Fear With Sedation
Welcome back to our oral health blog!
At Smile Glen Ellyn, our team provides preventative care, cosmetic dentistry, dental implant placement, same-day crowns and veneers, general dentistry, and more for the families of Illinois.
We also offer multiple levels of sedation dentistry for those who need to be put at ease when visiting our office.
Doctors And Dentists Make People Nervous
It’s true.
If dental appointments make you anxious or fearful, then you are like 10-15% of the American population who share your “dental phobia.”
It’s alright to be anxious. But some folks are so fearful that they go to great lengths to avoid dental care.
Given the importance of oral health and its role in your overall wellness, this is never a good situation.
Here at Smile Glen Ellyn, we’ve even had some patients tell us that their fear is so paralyzing that it took them weeks to gain the courage to make their appointment.
But at least they did finally take the steps to get their health back on track.
Sometimes patients need friends to escort them to our office and are tearful when they get here, but they never remain on edge for long.
Often there seems to be no rational basis for the fear. There are no prior bad experiences that they can recall. But we have found that, if the patient has neglected their dental care, sometimes this is wrapped up with a more general fear of the unknown.
Other folks have had traumatic incidents that they will never forget.
Don’t Let The Past Shape Your Future
Many patients remember having had a mean or pushy dentist as a child or having gone through a painful procedure.
Whatever has happened in the past, at Smile Glen Ellyn, we can make the future better.
One of the primary reasons that people love our office is because we do everything we possibly can to make sure you don’t feel any pain whatsoever.
Unlike previous eras of dentistry, these days, we have better anesthetics, “Wand” syringeless delivery systems, and dental lasers at our disposal for much more comfortable treatments.
Regardless of what kind of treatment you are receiving, we can relax you when you get here with nitrous oxide gas.
This method is a safe, thoroughly tested, and accepted way of relaxing a mildly fearful patient.
Oral conscious sedation is another one of the newest methods of anxiety control in dentistry.
These sedatives are delivered in a pill form and can reliably produce a very relaxed state in most patients.
Beyond that, our office is also one of the fewer than 2% of general dentists in the State of Illinois to be able to “put people asleep” using pill or IV dental sedation.
