Porcelain Veneers

Dental Veneers and Porcelain Veneers in Glen Ellyn

Most dental procedures address mechanical or functional issues, such as repairing a broken tooth to restore its strength and prevent further damage. Porcelain veneers, however, are designed with artistry in mind, focusing on enhancing the beauty of your smile. These ultra-thin, durable veneers are widely regarded as one of the most effective tools in cosmetic dentistry. They allow dentists to transform smiles with minimal alteration to natural teeth. Long-lasting, stain-resistant, and versatile, porcelain veneers can reshape teeth, close gaps, and correct uneven or persistent discoloration, helping you achieve a radiant, confident smile!

Porcelain Veneers

What Are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers offer a great way to perk up the appearance of your front teeth. Using these fixtures, you can swiftly whiten your teeth, close spaces, and create a great smile. We offer virtually instant orthodontics to straighten crooked teeth. Some of the front tooth problems that can be corrected fully and effectively with veneers include:

  • Spaces between the teeth (diastemas).
  • Broken or chipped teeth.
  • Unsightly, stained, or washed out fillings.
  • Permanently stained or discolored teeth
  • Misshapen or crooked teeth.
  • Dark yellow or stained teeth.

Porcelain veneers provide an immediate answer to cosmetic flaws in your visible front teeth, concealing and, for all practical purposes, correcting everything from gaps to misalignment of teeth. You can improve your smile for a better appearance, more self-confidence, and a neater look overall. That smile you always wanted is possible if you make use of Schaumburg veneers! Several varieties of porcelain veneers and porcelain restorations are available for use, depending on the patient’s dental condition and the type of cosmetic change desired. A veneer is an ultra-thin prosthesis made to look like the outer surface of a perfectly formed human tooth. It serves much like a fancy facade on a plain building, though thanks to the toughness of porcelain, it is quite functional, also.

A typical veneer is between 0.3 millimeters and 0.5 millimeters thick, or less than 1/50th of an inch. They are bonded onto the front surfaces of your anterior teeth. They are very strong once bonded onto the tooth despite their extreme thinness. Their natural appearance provides strength, beauty, and durability that few other restoration methods can rival. The expected longevity of porcelain veneers ranges from 15 to 30 years, depending on how much effort the patient puts into caring for them. Cosmetic porcelain veneers are especially popular because they offer results that are both instantaneous and spectacular!

At Smile Glen Ellyn, we often combine teeth whitening with porcelain veneers to create the perfect, radiant smile. For front teeth that are significantly damaged, we can use a combination of porcelain crowns, veneers, and other advanced cosmetic techniques to restore their function while enhancing their appearance. It’s all about achieving a stunning, natural-looking result tailored to your needs. Schedule a consultation with us to discuss your specific goals—we’re here to help you achieve the dazzling smile you’ve always dreamed of!

Note on material: Porcelain is a substance ideally suited to smile makeovers. Its surface is extremely hard, even harder, in fact, than tooth enamel. If the glaze remains intact, it is also more stain-resistant than enamel. Color, surface texture, and translucency can be manipulated to perfectly mimic natural tooth structure. Even with my extensive experience as a cosmetic dentist, it’s nearly impossible to distinguish a natural tooth from a porcelain one just by looking at it from the front.

The patient is typically involved in selecting the shade of their veneers, with careful attention given to the surrounding teeth and overall facial features to ensure a natural, harmonious look. Equally important is the shape of the teeth. At Smile Glen Ellyn, we often use the LVI Smile Guide to help patients visualize and choose the ideal tooth shapes for their smile design. Additionally, we frequently work with our dental laboratory to create a detailed “wax mock-up” of the case, giving the patient a preview of the final result. Achieving the perfect smile is too important to leave to chance, which is why we prioritize precision and collaboration every step of the way!

Darkly Stained Teeth and Tetracycline Stain

Some people have very dark teeth naturally, and some patients have dark stain due to chemicals such as tetracycline.  Porcelain veneer can replace the dark outer enamel with stain resistant porcelain in just a couple of appointments.

Porcelain Veneers for Short or Worn Teeth (Gummy Smiles)

Some patients have severely worn or naturally short teeth, which can result in an unbalanced smile—showing too much gum or teeth that appear overly square and unnatural. At Smile Glen Ellyn, we often address these concerns with a combination of laser gum lifts and porcelain veneers, or thinner Lumineers in some cases. This approach helps achieve a more aesthetically pleasing width-to-length ratio for the front teeth, creating a harmonious, natural-looking smile.

Porcelain Veneers and Complex Dental Restorations

Porcelain veneers are an incredibly versatile solution that can dramatically enhance your smile by brightening teeth, filling gaps, and lengthening teeth with minimal tooth reduction. At Smile Glen Ellyn, we often combine veneers with more advanced treatments for comprehensive smile makeovers. For instance, when replacing missing teeth with dental implants, veneers can be used to transform the remaining teeth and create a beautifully cohesive, aesthetic result.

Cost of Porcelain Veneers

Cost is a key factor when considering porcelain veneers for your smile makeover. Porcelain veneers are typically priced similarly to porcelain crowns, as both are custom fabricated in a laboratory. In some practices, veneers may be priced higher due to the use of higher-quality laboratories, especially given the cosmetic precision required. Veneers are generally priced per tooth, with discounts sometimes offered for multiple veneers.

When planning the number of veneers for your smile design, it’s important to consider how the result will look overall. If too few veneers are used, the smile may appear unbalanced, with bright, beautiful teeth in the front and darker teeth on the sides. We often advise patients to take a moment to realistically assess their smile in the mirror and consider “doing all the teeth that show when you smile” for the most natural and harmonious result.
