The majority of dental procedures are done to fix mechanical or functional problems in the mouth–when a tooth is broken, it needs to be rebuilt and reinforced so that it won’t break again. Porcelain veneers, however, are used for the purpose of creating a beautiful smile. Their use is an artistic procedure meant to have a positive cosmetic effect on your appearance. Dental veneers made of porcelain are considered by most dentists to be the best in cosmetic dentistry–the ability to create and restore a beautiful smile with minimal alteration of the existing teeth! They are long lasting, stain resistant, and give us the ability to re-shape teeth, close gaps, and eliminate prior or insistent color variations.
Any First Cosmetic Procedure.
Porcelain veneers offer a great way to perk up the appearance of your front teeth. Using these fixtures, you can swiftly whiten your teeth, close spaces, and create a great smile. We offer virtually instant orthodontics to straighten crooked teeth. Some of the front tooth problems that can be corrected fully and effectively with veneers include:
Porcelain veneers provide an immediate answer to cosmetic flaws in your visible front teeth, concealing and, for all practical purposes, correcting everything from gaps to misalignment of teeth. You can improve your smile for a better appearance, more self-confidence, and a neater look overall. That smile you always wanted is possible if you make use of Schaumburg veneers! Several varieties of porcelain veneers and porcelain restorations are available for use, depending on the patient’s dental condition and the type of cosmetic change desired. A veneer is an ultra-thin prosthesis made to look like the outer surface of a perfectly formed human tooth. It serves much like a fancy facade on a plain building, though thanks to the toughness of porcelain, it is also quite functional, also.
A typical veneer is between 0.3 millimeters and 0.5 millimeters thick, or less than 1/50th of an inch. They are bonded onto the front surfaces of your anterior teeth. Once placed, they are very strong once bonded onto the tooth despite their extreme thinness. Their lifelike appearance offers strength, beauty, and durability that most other restoration methods are hard put to match. The expected longevity of porcelain veneers ranges from 15 to 30 years, depending on how much effort the patient puts into caring for them. Cosmetic porcelain veneers are especially popular because they offer results that are both instantaneous and spectacular!
Many times, we combine bleaching with porcelain veneers for teeth to make a perfect smile. If some front teeth are already badly damaged, we can place all new porcelain crowns, veneering, and other cosmetic techniques to simultaneously repair them and make them look far better. As always, talk to your dentist or one specializing in cosmetic dentistry to discuss your specific desires. We’re ready to make your smile as dazzling as you’ve always wanted it to be!

Note on material: Porcelain is a substance ideally suited to smile makeovers. Its surface is extremely hard, even harder, in fact, than tooth enamel. If the glaze remains intact, it is also more stain-resistant than enamel. Color, surface texture, and translucency can be manipulated to perfectly mimic natural tooth structure. Even as a highly experienced cosmetic dentist, I can’t tell from the appearance of a tooth from the front whether it is a natural tooth or porcelain one.
The patient is usually involved in the selection of the shade of the veneers carefully considering the surround teeth and facial features. Another important factor is the shape of the teeth. We customarily use the LVI smile guide to help the patient the shapes with smile design. Also we customarily have the laboratory fabricate a “wax mock-up” of the case to show the patient the exact end result that can be achieved. It’s simply too important not to be precise in choosing a patient’s smile!
Some people have very dark teeth naturally, and some patients have dark stain due to chemicals such as tetracycline. Porcelain veneer can replace the dark outer enamel with stain resistant porcelain in just a couple of appointments.

Some patients have severely worn teeth, or naturally short teeth. Often either they show too much gums when they smile, or have teeth that look too square and un-natural looking. We often use a combination of laser gum lifts and porcelain veneers (or sometimes thinner Lumineers) to regain a more esthetically pleasing width to length ratio of the front teeth.

Since porcelain veneers can dramatically lighten teeth, fill gaps, and lengthen teeth with a minimal amount of tooth reduction, we often use them in conjunction with more complicated care. An example is where we are replacing missing with dental implants, and the remainder of smile is un-esthetic.

Cost is a obvious deciding factor in deciding not he option of using porcelain for your smile makeover. They are usually priced similar to porcelain crowns as they are both laboratory fabricated. In some offices they may be priced higher as the dentist often uses a higher quality laboratory due to the often extreme cosmetic considerations. They are usually priced per tooth, and a discount is sometimes given for the number placed.
One caution to note when choosing how many veneers to use in the smile design that was decided. If too few are placed the smile may look “unusual” with bright beautiful teeth in the front and darker teeth on the sides. Generally we ask the patient to realistically look in the mirror and “do all the teeth that show when you smile!”
